We’ve been celebrating success recently after two of our home carers scooped awards.
Great British Care Awards
Nichola Noble was announced as the winner of the Putting People First award at the Yorkshire & Humber finals of the Great British Care Awards. She was nominated for putting her clients’ needs at the centre of her support, and will now go on to the national finals later this year.
Nichola works full time at Continued Care in Harogate, and is very popular with her colleagues and clients for her kindness, calm manner and humour. Alongside her role with us, she also volunteers at several charities supporting homeless people.
So we weren’t surprised to hear the Great British Care Awards judges’ comments about her, which were spot on! They said: “Nichola goes above and beyond. Her story will inspire anyone and she is still incredibly humble.”
Our director Samantha Harrison said: “I cannot think of a more worthy winner. Nichola’s kindness and compassion towards others and her local community in the volunteer roles she undertakes is remarkable.
“She absolutely deserves this recognition and is a true winner and we are delighted that others agree.”
Congratulations also go to our other finalists Anne Ingledew, Lisa Knight and Maddie Andrews. Anne, who works in Harrogate, was shortlisted for the Home Care Worker Award. She consistently provides her clients with a cheery face and a bubbly outlook, and has a 360-degree approach to care.
Lisa, who works in Ripon, was shortlisted for the Care Newcomer Award. Having never worked in care before, Lisa has taken to it so well that our clients call to ask for her and say she is brilliant!
And Maddie Andrews, from our Settle branch, was shortlisted for the Dignity In Care Award. An amazing carer who looks at the bigger picture, Maddie is also a fantastic team player and supports her colleagues.
Carer of the Year Award
As well as celebrating our home carers’ successes at the Great British Care Awards, we were also delighted to present Maria Gibson with a very special award from ourselves here at Continued Care.
Maria was named our Harrogate Carer of the Year following a vote by clients and colleagues. She is a well-deserved winner of this award and was absolutely over the moon to receive it.
In an emotional speech, she said: “I’m extremely proud and grateful to have been awarded Carer of the Year. This past year has been hard for us all and I believe we have all worked in unison to provide the clients with outstanding care despite the circumstances. I want to thank each and every person who voted for me. It was an overwhelming feeling of achievement to win but I believe we are all winners and we should all be proud of ourselves. Thank you!”
Maria, who has been working at Continued Care for 13 years, was chosen to receive the award from among other staff who had been named Carers of the Month during 2020. Every month, we recognise individuals or teams of home carers from each of our offices in Harrogate, Ripon and Settle to be named Carers of the Month. They are all then put forward to a vote by colleagues and clients to see who is named Carer of the Year.
In Ripon, Terrie Cass was voted Carer of the Year by numerous clients and colleagues who praised her for being so helpful when they needed a chat. And Settle’s Carer of the Year was named as Megan Ward, for simply delivering outstanding care.
A huge well done to Maria, Terrie and Megan, as well as all of our carers who work so hard every day. We are so proud of them all and grateful for their commitment and dedication.
If you would like to join our team of home carers across Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon, Thirsk and Settle, please do get in touch!
We have a great reputation not only for the high standard of care we offer to our clients but also for the support and career development we offer to our staff. We exceed the National Minimum Standards for staff, with NVQ Level 2 in care, and we can also provide support to attain QCF up to Level 5 in care and leadership/management.
Although previous home care work experience is not essential as we provide induction and training, we are looking for people with a caring nature who are open to learning and will go the extra mile for others.
