Following a vote by our carers, we are proud to announce that our first charity of the year for 2019 is Canine Partners.
A registered charity, Canine Partners trains assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities, including civilians and members of HM Armed Forces. The dogs are trained to help with everyday tasks such as opening and shutting doors, unloading the washing machine, picking up dropped items, pressing buttons and switches, and getting help in an emergency.
In addition, the dogs also help to increase people’s independence, confidence, self-esteem, and sense of security, as well as bringing companionship and increased social interaction.
Here at Continued Care, we recognise the important work that Canine Partners are doing in training assistance dogs. The charity receives no government funding and relies solely on public donations and legacies to keep creating these life-transforming partnerships, so we are delighted to help support them through our fundraising efforts.
We are aiming to raise £5,000 which will pay for the purchase of a puppy as well as support the puppy through to its advanced training. We will be holding various fund raising activities over the year – so watch this space!
