Fantastic festivities at our annual Christmas lunch

Our annual Christmas lunch was once again a wonderful occasion. It’s always lovely to bring our Continued Care community together to celebrate the festive season.

Around 50 guests including people who use our services, their families and Continued Care staff gathered at the Cairn Hotel in Harrogate for an afternoon of festivities.

We enjoyed a really delicious two-course Christmas dinner with all the trimmings in a lovely cosy room. One of our carers, Henric, is a fantastic pianist and played Christmas songs and carols on his electric organ, which was a perfect addition to the festive atmosphere. Thank you Henric!

Father Christmas

Our service user Jim, a former Ripon hornblower, was a complete natural in the role of Father Christmas. He handed out presents to all the guests, chatting to everyone and making them laugh. This is the second year Jim has taken on the role, and he clearly loves it as much as we do. Thank you to Jim for being such a superb Santa!

Coming together at Christmas

Samantha Harrison, Continued Care’s director, gave a short speech wishing everyone a happy Christmas, adding: “It’s lovely to see familiar faces as well as new people here.”

Area office manager Mike Herrington said: “Christmas is a time for people to be together and it’s been brilliant to see everyone chatting to each other and finding out new things about their lives and experiences. I’ve heard some fantastic stories today, including one reminiscence about crops being grown on The Stray during the war!”

As part of our commitment to the people we look after, it’s important that we provide the opportunity for everyone to celebrate and enjoy Christmas. The event is a great opportunity for people to come together and celebrate the festive season. Not only does it strengthen our community but it’s particularly special for those who may not have any other get-togethers available to them over the Christmas period.

Our annual Christmas lunch has been running since 2012. It was forced to take a couple of years out during the Covid pandemic before returning last year.
