A decade of support for charity

It has always been a given at Continued Care that we support charities and voluntary organisations working in health, social and community care, and in the last ten years we are delighted to have raised nearly £40,000 for a range of causes.

Looking back at our fundraising journey since 2015 alone shows how many different local and national organisations we have helped – among them the Leeds Hospitals Charity, Alzheimer’s Society, Martin House Children’s Hospice, Harrogate Homeless project (HHP), Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Saint Michael’s Hospice.

As a company providing home care across Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon, Boroughbridge, Thirsk and Northallerton, we work closely with local organisations right through to the national charities who serve our local communities. The expertise, support, awareness and research they provide is immeasurable in improving lives and outcomes for all of us. They are vital to many of the people we care for, and have been there to support some of our staff members and their loved ones during difficult times, too.

That’s why one of the things we are most passionate about is supporting the important work that they do. We actively encourage our staff to take part in a range of events throughout the year to raise as much awareness and support as possible for both our nominated Charity of the Year and other organisations close to our hearts.

Charity events

Since 2015, our team members have organised and undertaken walks, treks, bike rides, fishing matches, assault courses and other activities. The final total we have all raised to date is a fantastic £39,696.79.

Our director Samantha Harrison, who has taken part herself in many of the fundraising events, said: “It is an amazing achievement over a sustained period and shows our commitment, culture and shared values as a team to contributing to our local communities and charities.”

This year’s fundraising

This year has seen our staff members continuing our fundraising efforts, with some going the extra mile to support our current Charity of the Year, Alzheimer’s Society, and various other organisations. Among them are:

• Assistant director Mike Herrington, who is aiming to complete one million steps during 2025 in aid of various charities including Help For Heroes
• Care services manager and wellbeing facilitator Mónica Tavares who will be taking on two major 26-mile challenges for Cancer Research and Alzheimer’s Society
• Reviewing officer Kristina Carr who will participate in the Great North Run in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity
• Care assistant Danielle Thompson will be walking in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.

Our most recent activity was a 26-mile hike in the Yorkshire Dales in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, which raised an incredible £1,450. You can still donate to this here.

Samantha added: “Thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts over the past ten years. We are proud to be able to help such wonderful and important causes through the activities and support of our staff members, families and friends.”
