Recognised among the best for employee development

Continued Care has been announced as a finalist in the Best Employee Development category of The Stray Ferret Business Awards.

It is fantastic recognition of the importance we place on developing our employees and helping them pursue rewarding careers in social care.

business-awards-2023We are delighted to be recognised for our approach to employee development, which has also helped us retain the Investors in People Gold standard three times running and led to us being named the Best Home Care Employer at the 2019 regional finals of the Great British Care Awards.

The Stray Ferret Business Awards

The awards are run by local news organisation The Stray Ferret, and recognise business excellence across the Harrogate district including Knaresborough, Ripon, Boroughbridge and Pateley Bridge.

More than 100 businesses entered this year’s awards, and there was strong competition in the Best Employee Development category. Companies in this category had to demonstrate a well-documented structure and in-house implemented programme that enabled employees to develop in the roles and gave them a great start to their career.

Employee development at Continued Care

Social care offers a rewarding, varied and interesting career and we are committed to giving all our employees the opportunity to develop their talents and fulfil their ambitions. We encourage all our staff to achieve their goals, and have created a culture that supports and promotes learning and development.

We offer a comprehensive induction and training programme and continuing professional development, with our focus on developing and inspiring careers in care.

Our close-knit, experienced induction team provide guidance, support, encouragement and development for all our new staff. We identify training needs and interests, as well as offering training in specialisms such as moving and handling, medication and safeguarding. New staff are assigned a mentor who offers support and expertise to give them the skills and confidence they need.

Following the induction period, all staff receive ongoing training and development focused on their career aspirations. We empower people to achieve job satisfaction. We offer funding towards qualifications, as well as the chance to develop roles and responsibilities within our organisation. There is no limit on training and encourage our staff to progress, offering a bonus when they achieve qualifications including NVQs. Approximately 80 percent of our staff hold an NVQ 2 or above and we currently have six carers who have or are in the process of completing their level 5. Many of our carers have gone on to develop their careers further within care, going on to train as midwives, nurses, social workers and paramedics.
